These four get mixed up all the time. They are not alternatives: they describe different layers — interface, product, device, and how the software is sold.

Pagine collegate, consultate nel browser. Principalmente informativo.

Software vero e proprio che gira nel browser. L’utente fa azioni.

Real software running in the browser. The user does things.

  • Spesso richiede un account
  • Non si installa (o si installa come PWA)
  • Dietro: backend, database, logica

Differenza chiave: il website informa, la web app fa qualcosa.

Differenza chiave: l’app è installata e sfrutta il dispositivo; la web app vive nel browser.

SaaS

Non è un’interfaccia: è un modello di business. Software nel cloud, in abbonamento.

Not an interface: a business model. Cloud software, on a subscription.

Differenza chiave: SaaS dice come si vende e si eroga il software, non come è fatto.

Come si combinano

How they combine

Non sono alternativi. Un SaaS è spesso una web app, e magari ha anche un’app mobile. Una web app può stare accanto a un website di marketing. Un’app può essere il client mobile di un SaaS.

They are not mutually exclusive. A SaaS is often delivered as a web app, and may also have a mobile app. A web app can sit next to a marketing website. An app can be the mobile client of a SaaS.
